Tom, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, joined the team at Calder Investment Advisors in August of 2000. He is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Tom enjoys investing in individual equities and runs our Momentum Calder Wealth Strategy, a strategy that incorporates specifically selected, individual stocks.
Tom brings a wide range of experience in finance, accounting, computers and administration. Before joining Calder, he served as Director of Business Administration at Christian Schools International (CSI). At CSI, he established the Common Trust Fund, a specialized fund that invests money for private school foundations. He was also Chief Financial Officer for the Christian Schools International Foundation and a member of the Finance/Investment Committee.
Tom lives in southwest quadrant of Grand Rapids. He is married with three adult children. His three children graduated from Calvin Christian High School where he served for 5 years on the School Board. He continues to serve the school as a Trustee and Secretary for the Grandville Calvin Christian School Foundation.
Tom is a member of LaGrave CRC and is active in their Kid’s Hope program. He is mentor to a second grader at Congress Elementary School .
Tom loves to play tennis, golf, and just about any other sport. You can find him most mornings at MVP in downtown Grand Rapids. He didn’t grow up with a pool table, but occasionally works on his game on our office pool table. Stop in and challenge him to a game.
Tom was born in Columbus but moved to Ann Arbor when he was four years old. Raised in Ann Arbor, he is a Wolverine. He’s quick to remind us that he was a 9th grade classmate of Jim Harbaugh. (Jim, if you ever come across this in a Google search, Tom would love to reconnect. And maybe manage your investment portfolio.)
Tom graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from Calvin College and received his Masters in Business Administration from Western Michigan University.
